La Entallada Lightbouse

Close to the village of Las Playitas in the town of Tuineje is the Lighthouse of La Entallada or Punta Lantailla. A building restored by the Council of Fuerteventura from which one can appreciate impressive views of the Fuerteventuran coast.  If you come here, don’t forget to photograph them.

The building is in the shape of a U with a patio facing inland, unlike the main facade which faces the sea. Three majestic towers welcome the visitor, one of them with a glass cupola resting upon a tower of 11 metres in height. The lighthouse was built between 1953 and 1954. This cupola also served to guide planes, and therefore we are in fact standing before a form of aerial beacon. History recalls how these facilities guided planes en route between the airport of Gando and the Spanish Sahara. This lighthouse guided planes like the Junkers during the Sidi Ifni conflict.

The stonework will surprise you, as will the red masonry on the mouldings, skirting boards and arches.  The stones were brought from the village of Tetir, and it also includes a house for the lighthouse keeper.

Outside, a viewpoint has been built on the cliff upon which the lighthouse is located and which is accessed via a wooden ramp. The views are impressive from there.  Remember that you are at the closest point to the African coast.  Enjoy the moment and this contact with nature in its purest form.
